چکیده

1 Investigation of cooperativity in the binding of ligands to the D 2 dopamine receptor. Abstract The D 2 dopamine receptor exists as dimers or as higher order oligomers, based on data from physical experiments. In this study we have sought evidence that this oligomerisation leads to cooperativity by examining the binding of three radioligands ([ 3 H]nemonapride, [ 3 H]raclopride, [ 3 H]spiperone) to D 2 dopamine receptors expressed in membranes of Sf 9 cells. In saturation binding experiments the three radioligands exhibited different B max values and the B max values could be altered by addition of sodium ions to assays. Despite labelling different numbers of sites the different ligands were able to achieve full inhibition in competition experiments. Some ligand pairs also exhibited complex inhibition curves in these experiments. In radioligand dissociation experiments, the rate of dissociation of [ 3 H]nemonapride or [ 3 H]spiperone depended on the sodium ion concentration but was independent of the competing ligand. Although some of the data in this study are consistent with the behaviour of a cooperative oligomeric receptor, not all of the data are in agreement with this model. It may, therefore, be necessary to consider more complex models for the behaviour of this receptor. This article has not been copyedited and formatted. Pattern-Based Quadrangulation for N-Sided Patches

We propose an algorithm to quadrangulate an N-sided patch (2 ≤ N ≤ 6) with prescribed numbers of edge subdivisions at its boundary. Our algorithm is guaranteed to succeed for arbitrary valid input, which is proved using a canonical simplification of the input and a small set of topological patterns that are sufficient for supporting all possible cases. Our algorithm produces solutions with mini...

Diversification of HP1‐like Chromo Domain Proteins in Tetrahymena thermophila

Proteins that possess a chromo domain are well-known for their roles in heterochromatin assembly and maintenance. The Heterochromatin Protein 1 (HP1) family, with a chromo domain and carboxy-terminal chromo shadow domain, targets heterochromatin through interaction with histone H3 methylated on lysine 9 (H3K9me2/3). The structural and functional diversity of these proteins observed in both fiss...

18β-glycyrrhetinic acid suppresses gastric cancer by activation of miR-149-3p-Wnt-1 signaling

18β-glycyrrhetinic acid (GRA) exerts anti-tumor effects on various types of cancer. In the present study, we found that GRA attenuated the severity of gastritis and suppressed gastric tumorigenesis in transgenic mice. We also discovered that miR-149-3p was downregulated in gastric cancer tissues and cell lines as compared to normal gastric tissues and epithelial cells, but was upregulated by GR...

So It Is, So It Shall Be: Group Regularities License Children's Prescriptive Judgments.

When do descriptive regularities (what characteristics individuals have) become prescriptive norms (what characteristics individuals should have)? We examined children's (4-13 years) and adults' use of group regularities to make prescriptive judgments, employing novel groups (Hibbles and Glerks) that engaged in morally neutral behaviors (e.g., eating different kinds of berries). Participants we...
